Q

What kind of an inn is Kosenkaku?

A.

The Kosenkaku hot spring inn was established in 1956 (31st year of the Showa period), and it currently features 66 guest rooms. It was the first inn in the Arima Onsen (hot spring) region to possess its own “in-house hot spring source,” and to this day, the inn continues to provide visitors with access to its high quality “Kinsen” hot spring water.

Within the vast grounds of the inn, which measure approximately 198,347 square meters, visitors can find the main building, annex building, east building, and lodge building, in addition to a French restaurant and a ryotei (traditional Japanese luxury restaurant) that serves shoujin-ryouri (vegetarian cuisine based on the dietary restrictions of Buddhist monks). In the spacious Japanese garden, visitors can enjoy a gorgeous view of the scenic beauty of the four seasons in Japan, from sakura (Japanese cherry blossoms), the fresh greenery in springtime, the changing color of the leaves in autumn, and the snowy scenery in winter.

Q

What are some of Kosenkaku’s characteristics?

Kosenkaku’s most notable characteristic is its “Kinsen” hot spring water (hot spring water that has strong basic properties with iron-containing and sodium chloride components), which is supplied by the inn’s precious, in-house hot spring source, at a rate of roughly 6 tons per hour. In order to allow guests to enjoy the premium quality of the “Kinsen” hot spring, we replace the water with fresh hot spring water twice every day.

*Arima Onsen’s “Kinsen” hot spring water, which is counted among the 3 oldest hot springs in Japan, as well as the 3 most famous hot springs in Japan, contains iron components and high concentrations of salt, and it possesses a characteristic of turning reddish-brown when it comes into contact with air.

Additionally, the inn offers guest rooms with a traditional Japanese-style or Westernized lodge-style interior, and the inn serves various types of meals including kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese dinner), French, and shoujin-ryouri (in summer, the inn also offers barbecue courses), thereby providing guests with a variety of different options to meet their needs for every season and for every type of vacation preference.
